In this year’s competition, teams negotiated an amendment to a stock purchase agreement in order to address two issues (an IP infringement claim and FDA drug inquiry) that arose post-execution of the agreement, but prior to closing of the merger transaction. The drafting stage took place over two months, with students drafting an amendment to the stock purchase agreement, interviewing their clients, and marking up opposing teams’ drafts. The competition culminated with online negotiations on March 26, 2021. Practicing attorneys from law firms and in-house corporate counsels from the greater Denver and Kansas City areas served as judges for the online competition.

Denver Law 3L students Anthony Gunnell, Bradley Scoble and Van Vu represented the Sturm College of Law and shared top honors in the UMKC School of Law Region with the team from University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law earning Overall Winning Team. Congratulations to Anthony, Bradley, Van on this impressive victory.

Professor Stacey Bowers, team coach and director of Denver Law’s Corporate and Commercial Law Program, shares the law school’s pride in the team’s success. “Congratulations to Anthony, Bradley, and Van for their impressive victory in the UMKC region. What a great accomplishment to be named the overall winner for the buyer side of the transaction against the fierce competition they faced. We also appreciate the guidance provided by their coaches Alexandra Valls Wilde and Becky Stifter (both Denver Law alumni and former LawMeet competitors) for all their efforts in helping to coach and guide the team to victory," says Bowers.
