Academics

The University of Denver Sturm College of Law opened its doors in 1892 and has been breaking ground in legal education ever since.

Denver Law's cutting-edge curriculum, taught by leading scholars and practitioners, produces graduates who are practice-ready and prepared to hit the ground running. This part of our curriculum is all about experiential learning, including our nationally recognized clinics and legal writing program, one of the largest externship programs in the country and an ever-growing menu of simulation-based capstone courses.

Our curriculum also includes several substantive areas of specialization, designed to allow our students to tailor their education to their passions and career goals.

Feel free to reach out to the Sturm College of Law Academic Advising team with questions about course offerings, experiential learning opportunities, program certificates and pathways, and dual degrees.

Because of the integrated, practical legal education that I received at Denver Law, by the time I sat for the bar exam, I had tried four cases (three to a jury), represented many clients in plea negotiations and filed an appeal with the Court of Appeals. It was because of this experience that I was able to start my own firm after only three years in practice. I cannot say enough about the incredible importance of hands-on learning. DU gets this more than other schools and excels at creating programs to truly educate students in the practice of law, not just the study of it.
